Coaching

Coaching That Works at
the Pace You Need

Individual and group coaching for senior professionals, business owners and emerging leaders. Every engagement is structured around your goals – not a standard framework.

For Leaders Who Want More
Than a Framework

Individual coaching for senior professionals, business owners and emerging leaders. Every engagement is structured around your goals – not a standard framework – and delivered at a pace and intensity that fits your working life.

The work can be whatever is most useful: building the confidence to lead more authentically, clarifying a strategic decision, strengthening relationships with a board or team, navigating a significant transition, or developing commercial skills that do not come naturally.

Matthew also offers group coaching for organisations that want to develop a cohort of leaders simultaneously, combining the depth of individual coaching with the dynamic of shared learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what you are trying to achieve. A focused package of four sessions over two to three months suits a specific challenge. A full annual engagement of twelve monthly sessions is better for sustained development work where the goals may evolve throughout the year. Most clients start with a clearer picture after the first two sessions, which is when we review the work and confirm the right shape for the rest of the engagement.
Either, and most engagements are a blend. The first session is usually in person if geography allows – it sets a different quality of relationship from the start. Subsequent sessions are more often online for practical reasons. I am based in the north of England and work with clients nationally.
Coaching works best when you have a goal or challenge that matters to you, and you are willing to reflect on your own role in it. It is not therapy, and it is not advice-giving – though it draws on experience and challenge when that is useful. The discovery call is genuinely just that: a chance for both of us to work out whether there is a good fit. If coaching is not the right thing for your situation, I will say so.
Coaching is primarily led by your goals and your agenda. The coach asks questions, challenges thinking and supports reflection rather than directing what you should do. Mentoring draws more directly on the mentor's experience: they share what they have done, give advice and point you towards solutions. In practice, a skilled coach with relevant experience moves between the two where it is useful. Matthew does both, and is clear about which is happening at any given moment.
Yes. Invoices are issued to individuals or organisations as required. If your employer is funding or part-funding the engagement, it is worth having a brief conversation at the start about what they expect from it – this protects the confidentiality of the coaching relationship while keeping the sponsoring organisation appropriately informed. A practical framework for this is discussed at contracting stage.
